Mission:  This is a prayer ministry, with the purpose of loosely organizing and establishing prayer for OSL on a 24 hours a day, 7 day a week, basis. To share the Scriptures, direction, etc. God gives to us as we pray for OSL in this 24/7 effort, and encourage unity in prayer.

Mission:  To encourage our shut-ins at home, in Nursing Homes or in Hospitals to remember that they are not alone; that Jesus loves them and is always with them.  To visit as caring friends and to provide communion for them.

Mission:  To enhance worship by preparing the Lord’s table for all services.  This preparation is to be carried out reverently, lovingly, carefully, and willingly.  This mission includes the cleaning and changing of the altar linens and paraments, preparing the elements for the Lord’s Supper, and preparing the altar flowers for delivery to shut-ins after services.

Mission:  The Choir is called to worship the Lord and to present through song the Word and Biblical truths that support the scripture readings during the Worship service.  In addition, the Choir provides encouragement to the congregation and leads it in worshipping the Lord.

Mission:  The Coffee/Fellowship Ministry provides a coffee time between services each Sunday morning to encourage Fellowship among members of the congregation and visitors.

Mission:  To create a place for men:  
  1. to be disciplined in becoming Christ-like men following the example of Jesus;
  2. to obtain needed fellowship and strengthen friendships within the congregation;
  3. to be encouraged to “put away childish things when I became a man” (1Cor 13:11); and
  4. by means of personal testimony of other men, to assist “the man of God to be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (1Timothy 3:17).

Mission:  To encourage, support and train men to have vital intimate relationships with God and family, and to become Godly influences in their world.  Promise Keepers are men who are true to their word, and who are trust worthy.  Men who desire to be Godly men through the grace and strength of Jesus Christ.

Confirmation

Mission:  Confirmation is a two year instructional program directed toward Junior High Youth (7th and 8th graders) providing instruction in Lutheran doctrine and designed to draw each confirmand closer to Jesus as equipped and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

 
First Communion Class

Ministry Head:  Tony Zuelsdorf
Mission:   To prepare children to receive their first communion.  The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is a special gift of grace and spiritual nourishment from our Heavenly Father. The apostle Paul stressed that this sacrament is to be given only to those who recognize the significance and power in the Body and Blood of Christ.  Our Savior’s Lutheran Church provides Communion Preparation Classes for children in Fourth Grade and up prior to their first communion. Classes are taught for five consecutive Sundays during the Sunday School hour during Lent. These children will then receive their First Communion together with their family on Maundy Thursday evening.
 
Junior High Youth

Mission: To prepare our 7th & 8th Grade students for the process of confirmation. Sunday morning Sunday school for 7th grade students is a strong Bible-based curriculum stressing the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. For the 8th grade students, Sunday morning classes are for preparing for Confirmation in the Spring. Twice a month we meet to encourage, teach and fellowship with all of the students to once again strengthen their relationship with Jesus Christ.
 
Kingdom Quest (Sunday School)

Mission:  Kingdom Quest Program is to help lead our children into a loving relationship with Jesus Christ by entering into a deeper walk with the Holy Spirit.  His work in our children’s daily lives will be a major focus. One of the goals is to help the congregation understand and improve in nurturing our children.

Mission:  The Monday Afternoon Bible class is a gathering for women who seek a deeper relationship with the Lord, who seek to grow in faith, to walk in righteousness, to know His leading, and to care for one another.  Toward this effort our time together includes praise and worship, Bible study, prayer, and fellowship.
 
Assimilation Committee

Mission:  The Assimilation Committee assists and encourages members of the congregation to use their gifts, talents, and skills to the glory of God and in service to others. The Assimilation Committee assists the pastors and elders in bringing new  members into the life and fellowship or the body, by administering Spiritual Gifts Inventories and informing new members of ministry opportunities at Our Savior’s.
 
Assisted Living Bible Study

Mission:  The Assisted Living Ministry reaches out to residents of the Colonie Manor, the Atria Shaker and Artria Guilderland nursing homes.  Its purpose is to draw us together in the name of Jesus for worship, study, prayer and fellowship.  It is intended to spread the love of Jesus, increase faith and offer encouragement.
 
Food Pantry

Mission:  To be a known resource of OSL providing food to anyone requesting such assistance.  Ensure that pantry is well stocked.

 
Horizons International

Mission:  Our Savior’s participates in this area of Christian outreach to international students at SUNY-Albany, RPI and Union College.  Members of the congregation are urged to become friendship partners to international students and participate in Horizons International welcome dinners and activities.
 
Hospitality Committee

Mission:  The Hospitality Committee is the first contact point in making plans for food and receptions at the church (e.g. Lenten suppers, funeral luncheons, pastors gatherings, suppers for new members and visitors).  This committee will oversee  the purchase of food, the set-up, serving, and clean-up for the function.

Mission:  Our Savior’s has been uniquely placed in the Capital District area to carry out Jesus “Great Commission” to witness to the community so that all may come to know Jesus as their personal Savior.  We recognize that each of us has been given the power of the Holy Spirit to become active participants in accomplishing this mission.  Some have been specifically gifted as evangelists; all have been empowered to play some role in leading others toward Jesus Christ.

Mission:  To facilitate awareness of ongoing and special needs of persecuted Christian brothers and sisters around the world.  To provide and organize opportunities to help with those needs.
 
Moms Of Teens

Mission:  To strengthen families by providing encouragement and prayer support for the mothers of teenagers.  To communicate the fact that we care about teenagers and their families.  To provide settings for encouragement and prayer to occur.  To provide resources especially for the mothers of teenagers.

Mission:  To give mothers of young children an opportunity for instruction, encouragement and fellowship.  Child care is provided.
 
New Hope Support Group

Mission:  Luke 10:25-37, Proverbs 13:12  The purpose of New Hope is to give awareness of the vacuum or empty place that exists in these Adult Children of Dysfunctional Families.  Once that realization is made, they can begin to move toward forgiveness and healing of the past.  New Hope provides a safe place in a Christian atmosphere to openly and honestly share with others who understand.  Through group support and applying the scriptures, they can begin to realize God’s love and acceptance of them and experience personal and spiritual growth.

Parish Nursing Ministry

Mission:  To provide information and care for those in need.  Blood pressure checks are done the first Sunday of each month for those interested.  The nurses may identify physical needs that can be met by the congregation and answer various questions that people may be reluctant to ask their own physician.
 
Spiritual Awakening Ministries [ S.A.M.]

Mission:  S.A.M is a ministry to the addicted and to people who have uncontrollable problems. S.A.M provides 12 step meetings , Celebrate Recovery group, as well as church services for two secular drug rehabs. We give anyone a Bible who needs one and other Christian-based  materials on recovery with Christ. We also help people get into drug rehabs by providing transportation and helping them with a entrance fee, if needed. This is a Christian outreach to the hurting and the addicted.
