Our History: A Timeline of Growth & Faith
1956 — A Christ-Centered Beginning
Our Savior’s Lutheran School opened its doors in September 1956 with just twenty-six first and second grade students. What began as a small ministry in the Capital District quickly became a place where families sought a Christ-centered environment for their children to grow academically, spiritually, and socially.
1960s–1980s — Steady Growth
In the years that followed, the school expanded to include preschool and additional elementary grades. Through the support of dedicated families, church leadership, and the surrounding community, the program continued to grow and develop into a full Kindergarten–8th grade school rooted in faith, character formation, and academic excellence.
2007 — Campus Expansion
A major milestone came in 2007 with the completion of a significant campus expansion. This addition provided new classrooms, enhanced learning spaces, and expanded resources, allowing the school to better serve its growing enrollment and strengthen its academic and ministry programs.
2018 — A New Name, Same Mission
In response to the changing needs of the community and the growing diversity of families served, the school was renamed Our Savior’s Christian School in 2018. While continuing to honor its Lutheran heritage, the new name reflects a broader Christian identity and an ongoing commitment to providing a strong, Christ-centered education for families from many Christian backgrounds.
Today — Preschool Through Middle School
Today, Our Savior’s Christian School serves students from 3-year-old preschool through middle school. Our program emphasizes academic excellence, spiritual growth, leadership development, and service. Students graduate well-prepared for high school, equipped with strong character, confidence, and a firm foundation in faith.
2026 — Expanding to High School
As we approach our 70th anniversary, OSCS is preparing for an exciting new chapter: the launch of Our Savior’s High School, beginning with 9th grade in Fall 2026. One grade level will be added each year as we grow toward a full high school program. This expansion will provide families with a seamless Preschool–12th grade Christian education and continue our mission of equipping students for college, career, and a life of purpose in Christ.
Looking Ahead
From a single classroom in 1956 to a thriving Christian school community today, Our Savior’s Christian School remains committed to knowing each student, nurturing faith, and pursuing excellence. We celebrate God’s faithfulness over the past seven decades and look forward with gratitude and confidence to the future He is preparing for our school and community.
